What is Internet addiction?

In simple terms, Internet addiction is use of the Internet for extended periods of time that either directly or indirectly disrupts a person's individual, family or professional life. The most problematic types of this addiction include:

Internet addiction and abuse involves a number of different problems. Therefore, treatment is individualized and depends on the issues identified in the evaluation/assessment stage. Treatment frequently involves a mixture of education, individual counseling and marital or relationship counseling as needed.

All treatment methods are based on the latest research of this newly recognized addiction.

Program Descriptions

Individual Counseling - as scheduled by appointment.
Issues of isolation, self-esteem, depression, anxiety, relationship problems and other addictions are frequently associated with Internet addiction. Individual counseling will address the problematic issues as identified in the evaluation.

Internet Addiction Education - 5 weeks.
This class covers general education about addictions, associated emotional and relationship problems, the development and common treatment procedures.

Family Care (Internet Addiction) - 5 weeks.
This group setting brings family members together to learn about Internet addiction. Families receive support and information about getting a loved one into treatment.

Family Counseling - as scheduled by appointment.
Family counseling is also provided to help mend the relationships affected by Internet abuse. Anger, resentment, rebuilding trust, dealing with the addict's isolation are some of the issues faced by families.
