Recognizing a problem - Warning SignsYou may not even be aware of the symptoms - there are many warning signs of eating disorders. If you or someone you know exhibits two or more of the following signs, call First Step today at
Evaluation and AssessmentThe first step to recovery is to make an appointment with a counselor for a needs assessment. Once the psychological evaluation has been completed, the counselor and client together will determine the appropriate program based upon the client's specific needs. Treatment programs will include group and family support.A complete physical evaluation is required for treatment. Medical evaluations may be completed by one's family physician. Or, a First Step staff member can help you obtain a medical exam. In some cases a client's insurance plan may dictate which physician conducts the evaluation. Take the First Step -- call for an appointment -- Treatment DescriptionThis comprehensive team involved with treatment is multidisciplinary and may include a psychologist, medical doctor, nurse, registered dietitian and specialized counselor who have struggled with their own body-image issues. The First Step program focuses on education of the disease, nutrition, exercise, introspection, group support, spirituality, art therapy and 24-hour intervention to bring about recovery.
Program PhilosophyFirst Step's outpatient programs provide personalized treatment at times convenient to your schedule with minimal interruptions to your life.Individual and/or family therapy are also provided to help support the individual as well as to overcome the impact of the disorder on the client's family and/or marriage. First Step's progressive recovery programs are designed to help clients (and their families) gain a thorough understanding about the disease, contributing thought patterns, and environmental triggers. First Step clients will learn to make behavioral changes so that a healthy lifestyle can be achieved. These outpatient programs include group therapy where clients are encouraged to interact with other individuals who are experiencing similar difficulties in their lives.
